In case anyone's wondering, the "rook sacrifice" was actually a blunder after all. After 40. ..Nd2 Boros even has a forced mate starting with Qf8+ or Bf8+. But by choosing to exchange the minor pieces first he opens the mating line for Eric instead. The evaluation goes from #4 to #-3 with Bxg4, truly a game-losing blunder.
