Carlsen returns as DrNykterstein for a bullet Titled Arena party

I follow the games of Magnus Carlsen (DrNykterstein) as he competes in a 2-hour bullet Titled Arena. Magnus’s friend Asbjørn (Assios on lichess) created this event and titled it “Chess party with DJ Assios”. Magnus played in this event while on stage during a chess rave . Andrew Tang, Daniel Naroditsky, Minh Le, and many other familiar bullet competitors were among the 123-player field. The top 3 finishers earned a prize with 1st $300, 2nd $200, and 3rd $100. This event began on July 15th, 2023 at 5:30 PM EDT (30 minutes after the Titled Arena July ’23 concluded).

  1. Jerry, we can not express how appreciative of your consistent uploads some of us have been lately. we love your content so much, and we are really happy to see you come back

  2. One of the few youtubers that can make me watch a 2 hours video

  3. damn crazy tourny got really exciting at the end

  4. Also, now, don't get me wrong, beyond this minor question (and it /is/ an open question!) of sportsmanship, Daniel Naroditsky is a swell, charming, and entertaining personality (a rare combination of all at once, similar to Jerry in that way, not to mention that he puts out his own quality chess instructables for which many of us can feel very grateful)—but has he been deploying a strategy of berserking with bad openings in the early stage of the tournament to lose sort of on purpose or something? To stretch out the gradation of pre-peak-level games and therefore enjoy a larger initial window to earn points on fire? I mean it's arguably a legitimate strategy and he's doing it out in the open: notice that not only did he play about 10 more games than even the penguin but, unlike the other players in the top 5, he starts the tournament with several back-to-back donuts despite being one of the best bullet players in the world. Yet he can't be throwing games entirely, can he? Maybe he takes a while to get warmed up? Any insight on this anybody?

  5. the penguins speed in that one game was ridiculous

  6. Jerry, your my favorite content creator. Almost everynight i rewatch Magnus titled arenas until i sleep. Its not a joke, i really love it! Thank you so much!!

  7. great chess content as always. I can't help but feel like most players, if they really want to win these tournaments, need to take the berserk option more seriously, as a game plan. Obviously RebeccaHarris here made strategic use of it. Maybe a conservative use of it would be to say, anytime I face an opponent 400 points lower than me I will automatically berserk. This would probably be a strategic way to statistically rack up more points. Seems like a potentially useful strategy to think about the right times to use berserk more, no?

  8. As others have said, we really enjoy the uploads lately! Much appreciated as always.

  9. I did not realize I was watching for 2 hours straight already

  10. 45:01 Rxg3+, Nxg3, Rf2+
Isn't this – relatively easy combination (otherwise I wouldn't have caught it^^) absolutly winning for black?

  11. 54:55 penguin win over carlsen is madness. 😮😮. Even jerry struggled to find words there i could sense 😂. What a beast.

  12. Love your videos. Sent a token of my appreciation.

  13. Jerry Might Be The Last White Man Playing Chess In America

  14. Still Here For The Baby Talk Commentary. Well Done!

  15. I must agree Jerry that was fun. Thank you.

  16. Your speed chess commentary is wonderful and really commendable. Yeah, sometimes so much is happening it's impossible to keep up but you do a great job. You really don't miss much and the few times you miss something there is almost always at least one guy that points it out live. It's entertaining and even instructing if one pays attention. There are a lot of brief comments about endgame types, pawn structures etc. that are quite helpful to beginners in standard chess. Thanks a ton!

  17. Jerry could you turn on the setting so we could see who is up the exchanges? Now i never know if someone is ahead or behind a piece or pawn. Thank you.

  18. That game against the Penguin at the end… 😅

  24. Been long time i wait to see chess network spec magnus

  25. The recent chesscom match between Alireza and Hikaru really could have used Jerry on the commentary.

  26. Great stuff as always. Naroditsky is so good. Sometime when he's playing and Carlsen's not, you should consider following him on stream. I'd watch it, for sure.

  27. @1:48:29 "There goes a rook are we gonna have a resigner? No resigner. No knight move with check. Is it going to be a resigner? No resigner. Rook here queen here pick your favorite resigner here? No resigner!! Resigner here!! Whoaaaa!"
